I wanted to have my TCS disable as OFF instead of the standard form where it defaults as ON even though you turn it off.. whenever you start the car back up again and begin a new driving session.. it turns
it back ON (default ON)..there is no way (stock) to program it to default off. My car is a 2003 Accord V6 2dr, Manual 6 Speed..
Since it’s just a basic traction control system and not a stability control
system, I decided that I can do w/o it and that it hinders performance by activating TCS (applying the brake) when I'm trying to do one of my hard launches or freeway onramp spurts. It bogs the car down and is
nothing but an annoyance/hindrance to me.
On the Accord the ABS/TCS computer which are one. I didn’t unplug the ABS/TCS computer which would have lost both. Also, I didn't want to hack up the stock
wiring harness in case I wanted to sell and convert the car back to stock on day.
If I wanted to disable the ABS I could just use the method that worked on the Integra and most Honda's w/ ABS.. pull up the
e-brake 1 or 2 clicks.. drive a little.. and then the system detects a "malfunction" and turns off ABS for that session.. when you turn off the car and turn it back on.. you resume your ABS.. so no problem
if I want my ABS disabled for a track event or something.
OK, so I basically just purchased a 2 position (on and off) 2 pin switch, some wiring, some solder, a diode to prevent feedback/messing up the TCS
computer (for safety measure), and that’s about it... for less than $5 I did this "TCS off as default mod."
In my helm manual, for troubleshooting TCS problems, it says that when the switch is
pressed there should be continuity between pin 1 and 2 (black and red/white.) So reverse engineering tells me that to turn TCS off, I need to connect those 2 pins.
The TCS OFF switch has 4 terminals. pin 1 - black - ground pin 2 - red/white TCS system pin 3 & 4 are the illumination of the TCS icon on the dash (the little exclamation mark in a triangle.) I
didn't alter pins 3 &4 because I'd rather have it on so when other people drive my car they know it’s off and I don't mind the light remaining lit.
Here are the steps.
1) Solder a wire to each of the pins of pin 1 and pin 2 (black and red/white). (I am not sure if it is necessary but you can put a diode in line. I put one in to be safe.)
2) Drill and mount your
switch (to toggle between TCS on and off and make the factory TCS OFF switch work)
3) Solder the ends of your 2 wires (from pin 1 and 2) to the terminals on the 2 position (on and off) 2 prong (pos and neg)
switch.
4) That’s basically it. To test: flick the switch to where the 2 wires would be "connected" or switch is otherwise known as "ON" and you default w/ TCS OFF... flick
the switch so the 2 wires are disconnected aka switch OFF.. and when you start your car of use the TCS switch.. it’s operates normal like the factory default ON setting.
Enjoy - Albert. .
