I had the time so I thought I'd replace this for my 2002 Honda. I think the manual says 15K is the interval. I have 17K on mine now and it was FILTHY. I think I'll replace at every 10K
now. My vehicle started getting a film on the interior windows like from smoke. I knew that was a sign.
Here's the procedure:
Replacing the 2002 Honda Accord EX V6 (and perhaps other) cabin air filters. Change every 15K miles.
1. Remove the center plate just above the key tray forward of the shifter. Pull hard from the
bottom or pry with a dull screwdriver or trim too. There are four button catches. That will facilitate access to the single screw on the left side of the knee panel.
2. Remove the right side fuse panel.
3. Phillips driver: Remove the left and TWO right side screws of the knee panel (the panel just below the glove compartment).
4. Remove the knee panel which has
about 4 button catches on the bottom and 3 on the top. Pull from the bottom first. Weak spot is the left side where the screw is.
5. Small blade driver: open the glove compartment and pop the two little
screw covers off from the top rail of the interior.
6. Phillips driver: remove the four top and FOUR bottom screws holding the glove compartment in.
7. Pull the glove compartment out, minding the wiring for the switch on the left side.
8. 8mm Nut Driver: Remove the three left and two right cap screws from the horizontal bar. Move the bar out of the way.
9. Phillips driver: Remove the left and loosen the right screw from the lower horizontal bar. Let the left side drop out of the way.
10. From the bottom, unlatch the filter holding bracket, pull it up and remove it.
11. Remove both filter cartridges and clean the cages.
12 Install new filters, minding the air flow arrows on the new
filters AND on the cages.
13. Install the new cages and assemble in reverse.
I lubed all button catches to make pulling panels easier with some white lithium grease.
Filters are $11.50 each at http://www.handa-accessories.com/accmaint01.html . TWO are required for each change.
Hope this helps someone change theirs someday.
