This installation took longer than normal because of a few things: A bolt on the stock down pipe was rusted and I ended up stripping it which meant I had to get it
off by using a dremel tool to cut it off without damaging the catalytic converter stud.
Also, I had to modify the down pipe stock bracket a bit to get the new down pipe to fit correctly and the new
header was a very tight fit. Plan on about 4 hours if everything goes smoothly and try to get a friend to help to hold things in place and such. You might even consider getting this professionally
installed if want to save yourself some effort. Power tools and a car lift would have made this job much easier!
One other thing to think about is you might want to inspect your oil pan gasket and if it
is leaking and needs replacing then it would be easier to replace after you remove your stock down pipe. Also, if you’re thinking about installing a hi-flow cat. Now is the time as you might as well do it
at the same time as I know I wish I had done it but forgot to get one!
I do recommend having the following on hand prior to the installation:
1. Good penetrating oil. 13 year old cars have very tight and rusted nuts. 2. A tube of Anti-sieze compund. (It makes it much nicer if you need to work on it again.) 3. Breaker bar,
ratchet, Sockets: 17, 14 and 12mm, some extensions and closed 17, 14 and 12mm wrenches. 4. A floor jack and jack stands. Mechanix gloves, Latex gloves and Eye protectants such as goggles.
5. It’s a good idea to replace the gaskets and nuts as the DC Sports header comes with the gasket to the Catalytic converter and to connect the header to the B-pipe. I would recommend replacing the
following with Honda parts:
a. One Gasket - Exhaust Manifold to Head - Part # 18115-PT3-A21 Cost $ 22.00 apx. b. Nine Nuts - They go on Head studs - Part # 90212-PD2-003
Cost $ 3.30 apx each nut c. Three 14mm nuts - connects B-Pipe to CAT. - Part # 90212-671-005 Cost 0.22 each
d. You can replace the Oxygen sensor but at $145 to $198 I decided to use my stock oxygen sensor being very careful not to damage it.
The above parts can be found at your local Honda Dealer or try HPARTS.COM as they have pretty good prices.
Disclaimer: This is not meant as a complete installation guide. Please refer to a good Honda repair manual such as “Helm”. Also, be aware that anytime you work under a car it can
be very dangerous. please take the proper safety precautions! Always use proper jack stands. Last, don’t blame me for any installation you do as I’m just an amateur like the rest of you out there, so
install at your own risk ;o)
NOTE: Both the DC Sports and Helm manual have a few mistakes in their instructions - from what I experienced with the installation.
